Nailing Your Elevator Pitch

For interviews, networking events, and LinkedIn outreach

For Interviews: “Tell me about yourself”

Formula, broken down into 3 parts:

1. Why you do what you do + unique value

   • “I’ve always been the type of person who…….”I recently found how much I loved x”

     1. Always be relevant to the role you’re hiring for

     2. starting off your elevator pitch like this sets you apart, helps you stand out as you show off what makes you, you

2. What you’ve done + your impact

   • "I have [X years] of experience in [your field], where I specialize in [your unique value/skill]. Recently, I [impact/result]."

3. Tie in why you’re excited about this company + where you’re headed next

   • "Right now, I’m excited to [your next move or why you're excited about this opportunity]."

TIP: Everything you mention must be recent and relevant to the role.

For Networking or Coffee Chats

When someone asks “So, what do you do?” at an event:

Broken down into 3 parts:

1. Brief one liner about what you do

   • Example: “I’m a content creator. I help brands connect with their customers in a fun and human way.”

2. What you’re exploring/why you’re here

   • Example: “Right now, I’m pivoting into more strategy work so i’m always excited to meet people doing cool things in that space.”

3. Converse

   • “And what about you?”

For Reaching Out to a Hiring Manager on LinkedIn

1. Subject Line:

• This should be direct and grab their attention.

  • “Social Media Lead - Here’s My Track Record”

• Message:

Hi [Hiring Manager's Name],

I came across the [Role] opening at [Company], and I couldn’t help but reach out directly. I’m [Your Name] – a [what you do] with a track record of [Your speciality].

Here’s a quick glimpse of how I align with what you’re looking for:

• [Relevant accomplishment 1]

• [Relevant accomplishment 2]

• [Relevant accomplishment 3]
