LinkedIn Networking Like a Pro

LinkedIn Networking Like a Pro

A step-by-step guide to getting a job in 2026.

STEP 1: Clean up your LinkedIn and follow the right people

Polish your profile:

  • Use a clear, professional headshot

  • Sharpen your headline: make your role + expertise obvious

  • Add recent work, results, and anything you’re proud of

Then follow (don’t connect just yet):

  1. Recruiters in your field → (list of recruiters to follow from Creative People)

  2. Experts who post insights and have experience at well-known brands

  3. Hiring managers or senior folks (think Directors, VPs, C-Suites)

STEP 2: When you find a role you’re qualified for, send an elevator pitch DM

Include: who you are, what you do, the brands you’ve worked with, your impact as it relates to their role, and why you're excited.

Here’s a plug-and-play example:

Hi [Name],

Hope you’re doing well! I saw the [job title] role at [company] (link to the job post) and had to reach out.

I’m Nali 👋 a social and growth marketer who’s led content + community for brands like [brand 1], [brand 2], and [brand 3].

I recently grew one brand’s IG from X to Y and launched a newsletter that drove direct leads and revenue. I love pairing creative storytelling with data and this role feels like the perfect next step.

Would love to connect or hear more about what you're looking for!

Include: LinkedIn (always) & portfolio (if applicable)

Best,

Nali

STEP 3: Show up on LinkedIn so people start recognizing your name

  • Share 2–3 posts a week: wins, insights, opinions, or things you’ve learned relevant to your industry/area of expertise

  • Comment on other posts (this builds visibility faster than posting alone)

  • Treat your profile like a landing page. LinkedIn is a social platform. What do you want someone to do after visiting? Check out your portfolio, get in touch etc.

And if you’ve built a little rapport, try this outreach:

“I love what you do and am curious about your career path. I’m exploring my next opportunity as a [role]. Would you be open to a quick Zoom chat? Totally understand if you’re swamped!”

STEP 4: Be patient

  • I didn’t get it by applying endlessly. I got it through networking, timing, and alignment with the role.

  • You’re not behind. The right opportunity will come and your time is coming.
